MHR’s Clinical Staff
Michaela Jamieson, M.S., earned her Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Old Dominion University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified Counselor. As the IOP Coordinator, she oversees both the Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse IOP’s. Additionally, she provides both interpersonal psychotherapy process groups as well as numerous coping skill training groups. She has experience with work place stress, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety and addiction / substance abuse. She utilizes a strengths based orientation, relying on the stages of change, motivational interviewing, interpersonal psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral techniques to help clients achieve their goals. She has worked in the mental health related services for approximately ten years. She has worked as a Case Manager, Family Case Manager, EAP intern, Utilization Review Assistant and Therapist at EAP’s, intensive outpatient and partial hospital programs.
Reisha Jack, M.S., received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Memphis, where she also received her Bachelor’s degree. As a Counselor, Ms. Jack comes to MHR with prior experience working with substance abuse and dual diagnosis patients in an IOP suboxone setting. She is well versed in helping clients identify triggers, relapse prevention and developing coping skills to maintain emotional calm. In addition to conducting an interpersonal psychotherapy based process group, she also provides numerous cognitive behavioral skills training groups, intake assessments, individual therapy and family support group. She has been involved in the delivery of an anger management program, where she facilitated individual and group therapy. She has experience working with domestic violence victims and perpetrators and has a special interest in co-occurring disorders and women’s issues.
Leah Bearman-Pinkston, M.A., earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis and her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver with an Addiction specialization. She is a Registered Psychotherapist with an Addictions specialization. She has provided individual therapy to children, adolescents and adults. Her experience includes working with homeless men and women struggling with alcohol and drug addictions, providing individual and family therapy as needed. She has provided numerous types of group based treatment, including parent skills training, nicotine cessation and about the process of addiction. She has volunteered to serve in numerous roles at the Exchange Club Family Center, including their Domestic Violence, Divorce and Anger Management programs. She relies on motivational interviewing, stages of change, cognitive behavior therapy and a strengths based approach in her clinical work. She has been an Honored Member of the Psi Chi National Honor’s Society and the Dean’s List for academic achievement.
Nina Serman, M.S. is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her Bachelor’s degree from Bernard College and her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Memphis. Attesting to her zeal for her chosen profession, she graduated with high honors, including Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and Outstanding Student Award. Ms. Serman has worked in both inpatient and outpatient dual diagnosis programs, as well as intensive outpatient programs for substance abuse and psychiatric patients. Her clinical interests lie in treating depression, trauma and alcohol and drug disorders. She has also worked with families as a counselor and has been involved in screening and training foster parents in the adoption process. She relies upon motivational interviewing, stages of change, and psycho-education in supportive context to inform her treatment interventions. In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Serman has conducted research in the areas of substance abuse, eating disorders and alcohol and drug treatment. She is also a member of both the American Counseling Association and the Tennessee Counseling Association.
Anne Knight, LCSW, received her Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Tennessee. Among her many accomplishments, she has served as the Director of Individual and Group Therapy for a local community agency and was the Treatment Program Director at a local medication assistance treatment program. She has provided direct clinical services throughout her career and has considerable addiction and dual diagnosis experience. Her special interests include women’s issues, co-dependency and co-occurring disorders.
PSYCHIATRY / PSYCHIATRISTS
Carl Da Cunha, M.D., completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee in 1991 and is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology. He has extensive experience working with veterans and their families at the Memphis V.A., where he was an attending psychiatrist, Clinical Manager of their Partial Hospitalization Program, Chairman of Quality Council and Medical Director for the Mental Health Intensive Case Management Intervention Team and Day Treatment Center Programs. He has extensive experience in the IOP treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Da Cunha specializes in the treatment of adult mood disorders and is currently in full time private practice.
Edward A. Wise, Ph.D. is a licensed Health Service Provider in Psychology and the President as well as founder of Mental Health Resources, PLLC. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and Ph.D. from the University of Wyoming. He has been in practice for over 30 years, treating individuals in a variety of outpatient and inpatient settings. He has extensive experience with mood disorders, substance abuse disorders and personality disorders. He conducts psychological and forensic evaluations, including pre-surgical, fitness for duty and risk for violence assessments. He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and has served as a Reviewer for many esteemed publications. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Fellow of the Society for Personality Assessment, Diplomate of the American College of Forensic Examiners and Distinguished Practitioner of the National Academies of Practice. He was named a Health Care Hero by the Memphis Business Journal, received the American Psychological Association’s Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Independent Practice, is the recipient of the Society of Clinical Psychology Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Clinical Psychology. and the University of Wyoming Outstanding Alumnus. He has served on the American Psychological Association Task Force for the Future of Psychology. Dr. Wise authored the evidence based IOP treatment manuals on which our services are based.
MHR’s Office Staff
Lisa Burnside is our Office Manager and oversees our daily office operations, including Billing, Collections and Patient Accounts. Lisa has over 15 years of experience in various medical settings, including rehabilitation, oncology and mental health. She has served as an Accounts Receivable Manager, Regional Business Office Manager, Business Office Manager and Director of Billing and Reimbursement in corporate, private practice and community mental health settings. She has performed all Business Office and Human Resource functions, participated in Quality Assurance Audits, Facility Site Reviews, provider credentialing and managed care contracting. She is the interface of our IOP treatment services and external agencies.
Krista Papps received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas and is our Patient Account Representative. She works with billing and collections and has experience working in nearly all operational aspects of medical offices and is crossed trained in most business office functions. Krista has worked on the provider side of billing and collections for over 12 years. She has worked in a specialty medical practice, a regional hospital and a national pharmaceutical company. Krista is proficient in all aspects of provider and facility billing as well as collections. The depth of her experience transfers easily to our IOP treatment services. She possesses a breadth of skills, talents and experience in working with payers, clients and office staff alike. _____________________________________________________________________
Angel Laughlin works as a General Office Clerk and is cross trained as our Receptionist, Data Entry and Insurance Clerk. She has extensive customer service experience and has worked in another mental health setting as a front desk receptionist. Prior to that, she held a managerial position at a local small business. As a data entry clerk, she has gained considerable experience with our IOP treatment services. Angel possesses numerous strengths, including her customer service skills, willingness to learn and her willingness to pitch in where ever she is needed. No task is to small nor to formidable for Angel, who believes in customer service with a smile.
Our Intensive outpatient treatment center in Memphis, TN has been proven to be effective in the treatment of alcohol abuse and drug treatment in peer reviewed treatment outcome studies. Our treatment center provides services to those who need more treatment than one hour a week, but less than 24 hour care, by providing three hours of treatment per day, three to five days per week, in an intensive outpatient program.
